Domain Transfer Details
Transfer Procedure
- A .us.org domain transfer must be initiated with an authorization code (auth-code), which can be obtained from the current registrar through the owner/admin contact of the domain.
- Ensure that your .us.org domain does not have a lock status (clientTransferProhibited and/or serverTransferProhibited). You can check the lock status via a WHOIS lookup.
- Should the domain have a transfer lock set by the client, the owner can request the current registrar to remove it.
Transfer Notes
- Transfers are processed by the registry and the losing registrar is automatically notified.
- The losing registrar will send an email to the owner (and optionally to the admin contact) containing information about the transfer, which may include options to approve or deny the transfer. If not explicitly approved or denied, the transfer will automatically complete after 5 days.
Authorization Codes
- The format for .us.org authorization codes must be between 16 and 48 characters in length.
- Additionally, the auth-code must contain at least two of each of the following types: alphabetic characters (a-z, A-Z), numeric characters (0-9), and special characters (-.,:;[]{}_+=@#$^*?!~).
