Domain Transfer Details
Transfer Procedure
- The transfer is submitted to the registry, and the losing registrar is notified automatically. The losing registrar informs the owner (and optionally admin) contact, with options to approve or deny the transfer. If no action is taken, the transfer is finalized after 5 days. This only applies to registrar transfers, not internal transfers between resellers.
Transfer Notes
- A .org domain transfer must be initiated with an auth-code, which can be obtained from the current registrar through the owner/admin contact of the domain. Ensure the domain does not have a lock-status such as clientTransferProhibited or serverTransferProhibited. If the domain has a lock, the owner can request the current registrar to remove it. Transfers are finalized automatically after 5 days unless explicitly approved or denied.
Authorization Codes
- The format for auth info requires a minimum length of 6 characters and a maximum length of 16 characters. Additionally, the auth info must contain at least one of each of the following three character types: Alphabetic character: a-z, A-Z; Numeric character: 0-9; Special characters: !;<=$%?&@[()]*^+-,’-{.|/}:~
