.qa domain pricing and requirements

The .qa domain is the country-code top-level domain (ccTLD) for Qatar, administered by the Qatar Domains Registry. Domain names can be registered for terms ranging from 1 to 5 years, with a length of 1 to 63 characters. Registrations must comply with Qatari law and Islamic moral standards, and several categories of names — including those related to gambling — are prohibited.

Registration Restrictions

  • Words or abbreviations contrary to Qatari law or Islamic morality are not permitted.
  • The Qatar Domains Registry reserves the right to reject, refuse, cancel, or suspend any domain name that violates public morality or public order, is offensive to a religion, deceives the public, involves illegal or fraudulent activities, or is prejudicial to the interests or security of the State of Qatar.
  • Domain names corresponding to governmental organisation names, well-known persons (without prior consent), or third-party trademarks and service marks (without prior consent) are not permitted.
  • Gambling-related domain names are prohibited.

Domain Transfer Details

Transfer Procedure

  • Obtain the authorisation code (auth code) from the current registrar of the domain.
  • Submit a transfer request specifying the domain name and the auth code.
  • The transfer is processed upon successful verification of the auth code.

Transfer Notes

  • Effective 2024-11-21, management of .qa domains was transitioned to a locally accredited registrar (Q Host Technologies). Registrations and incoming transfers, which had been suspended since 2024-10-31, resumed after the migration.
  • No renewal is charged on transfer; the domain retains its remaining validity period.
  • Transfer locks are not supported for .qa domains.

Authorization Codes

  • An authorisation code of 6 to 32 characters is required to initiate a domain transfer.

Additional Information

  • Registration Time: Registrations and renewals are available for 1 to 5 years. The total licence period must not exceed 5 years and 90 calendar days.

  • Deletion Timeframe: Explicit deletion is not available. Set the renewal mode to AUTODELETE or AUTOEXPIRE; deletion takes effect 2 days prior to the paid-until date.

  • Redemption Period: 30 days
