Registration Restrictions

  • Any legal person having an extract from the Monaco Trade and Industry Directory can request the registration of its company name (or brand) in .MC.
  • An association declared in Monaco can register the name of its association.
  • If you are the holder of a trademark registered in Monaco or covering Monegasque territory, you can obtain the domain name corresponding to the brand in .mc (subject to validation by the Monaco NIC).

  • Domain name must match company/ trade/ brand name.
  • 5 domain registrations per Domain holder.
  • Conduct of a compliance verification procedure by NIC Monaco
  • Court decision ordering the freezing of the domain name
  • The domain name has already been the subject of a registration request or already exists at the time of the registration request;
  • The domain name does not comply with the entries made on the supporting documents;
  • The domain name is likely to infringe or harm:
  • Public order, good morals.
  • To rights guaranteed by the Constitution or by the law and regulations in force; the image or values of the Principality of Monaco.
  • The rights of a legal or natural person.
  • Intellectual property rights, or personality.
  • The request is not sent through a Registrar approved by NIC Monaco;
  • The application is incomplete or contains errors or anomalies.
  • NIC Monaco reserves the right to request any documents or supporting documents it deems necessary.
  • When the examination of the request is satisfactory, NIC Monaco sends by all means to the Registrar the authorization allowing it to proceed with the registration of the domain name.
  • In the event of a dispute, article 7.2 ‘Resolution of disputes’ will be applied.
  • Furthermore, NIC Monaco reserves the right to refuse any request whose terms could cause confusion with the missions or identity of the Government of Monaco and the institutions of the Principality.
  • Registry can force transfer domains:
  • The NIC Monaco proceeds to the forced transmission (without the agreement of the holder) of domain names in the following cases:
  • The holder no longer meets the requirements of the Charter concerning this domain name when a new holder who requests it has the capacity to do so (e.g. sale of activity, takeover of a company, etc.);
  • The holder carries out an asset transaction when the original holder no longer has the capacity to carry out a voluntary transfer;
  • The holder no longer has a legal existence (e.g. cessation of activity) and a new holder has the legitimate rights to obtain this domain name; a court decision ordering the forced transmission of the domain name.
  • The forced domain name transmission procedure implies that the new holder proceeds, through a Registrar, to all the necessary steps with NIC Monaco and submits to the rules (in particular identification, eligibility) mentioned in the Charter.
  • In general, the forced transmission can only become effective subject to compliance with the terms of the Charter by - The new owner. The Monaco NIC may, as necessary, carry out the checks it deems necessary and request the communication of the necessary information.
  • All the costs, in particular technical and administrative costs, related to a forced transmission, are the responsibility of the new holder who, if necessary, takes care of their possible recovery from the former holder.
  • Domains can be deleted on the basis of:
  • No more legal existence of the holder for at least 2 years.
  • Inactive domain name over the same period.
  • No notification to NIC Monaco of any transfer of the domain name over the past two years.

Transfer Procedure

  • The transfer of a .mc domain is performed by obtaining an Auth-Code and initiating the transfer process.
  • The domain transfer is executed through an approved registrar in accordance with the rules of NIC Monaco.
